Students visit Bogibeel and Brahmaputra Gas and Polymer Limited (BCPL)

After the break of dawn on 16th October the participating districts students and their faculties accompanied by staff and faculties of Dibrugarh University went for a visit to Bogi Beel and Brahmaputra Gas and Polymer Limited. Buses accommodating almost 300 members of the conclave left after 6.30 and returned to the campus at 11.30am.

Orientation Programme with Dr.Bibhuti Lahkar and Jayanta Kr. Sharma

An Orientation Programme was held from 2.15 pm to 4.15 pm at Indira Miri Conference Hall of the University for the Academic Coordinators, Escort Teachers and Aryabhatta Science Centre coordinators. The Programme was attended by Dr. Bibhuti Lahkar and Jayanta Kr. Sharma as resource person. Both the resource persons stressed on disseminating knowledge among the students about the environmental aspects and sustainable development.

Interactive session with eminent scientists of India

An interaction programme was held in the premises of Rangghar Auditorium of the University from 4.30 pm. Dr. Padmeswar Gogoi, former Head, Department of Botany, DR College, Golaghat, Prof. Biman Kr. Dutta, of Department of Ecology and Environmental Science of Assam University, Prof. Pradip Kr. Bhuyan, Chairperson of the Centre for Atmospheric Studies of  Dibrugarh University, Prof. Kangkan Bhattacharyya, Director of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata and Dr. Narayan Upadhyay of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh were the invited eminent scientists who addressed the gathering.





Release of the news bulletin for the 24th State Level National Children's Science Congress

On the evening of 14th October during the cultural event at Rang Ghar auditorium, Dr.Binod Borah, Deputy Registrar(Academics), Dibrugarh University and Dr.J.P.Saikia, Associate Professor, Dept. of Sociology, Dibrugarh University released the news bulletin which comprises the entire news feed of the  four day conclave of the 24th State Level National Children's Science Congress. The news bulletin was published  by the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication, Dibrugarh University.


Children Scientists visit Science Laboratories

The students of all the districts were divided into groups and were lead by their mentors to the different laboratory visits. The students were taken to the Department of Anthropology where Tara Nath Dowerah, the Museum Curator guided the students about the various artifacts that are present in the department museum.

The students were next taken to the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics where Debojit Baruah demonstrated different experiments related to biotechnology. Followed by which Abhijit Duwarah and Rupjyoti Gogoi, Research Scholars of Chemistry demonstrated some chemical experiments for the students to observe and learn.

Open Quiz by Pilgrimage

Dr. Deba Pallav Rajkhowa, Director, Directorate of Distance Education Dibrugarh University and   Dr. Dhiren Kumar Basnet, Associate Professor, Tezpur University were the quiz masters for the open quiz at the Rang Ghar Auditorium of the University. The open quiz was organised by Pilgrimage, a non-governmental organisation. Students from various schools of Dibrugarh and the other districts were present and with utmost zeal and zest participated in the quiz.










Interactive Session on space technology, satellites, career opportunities in Science

A science exhibition was held with the felicitation of the chief judges- Arup Buragohain, North Eastern Space Application, Meghalaya, Dr. Bijoy Kr Handique, Indian Space Research Organisation and Dr. Pranab Jyoti Dutta, Scientist, Science Planetarium Jorhat.

Dr. Buragohain and Dr. Handique delivered a lecture on ''Space Technology - A glimpse." They explained about the functioning of Indian Space Research Organisation  and career opportunities in ISRO . They further enlightened the students on the history of Satellite and its classifications.

Learning Science with Fun

A session on Learning Science with fun activity was conducted at Dept. of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Activities were carried out with scientific instruments and a brief description on cell, DNA, micro-organism, electron microscope, higher pressure liquid chromatography. These activities were demonstrated by Debojit Borah, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, Dibrugarh University.





DAY III kick starts with technical sessions


October 15: The third day of the 24th Stale Level National Children's Science Congress Assam 2016 began with the children scientists exploring different facets of science. The technical sessions was the first event where the enthusiastic scientists demonstrated their projects. After the mind boggling and profuse session, the children scientists were then introduced to learning science with fun. To add more fun and balance their learning activities a quiz was conducted to challenge the students knowledge about science and their surroundings. Career opportunities in the science based research organisations were discussed as well as issues like space technology, science and witchcraft were discussed.

The two technical sessions started from 9 am onwards. The first half of the session ended by 11 am and the second half began around 11. am and continued till 1.30 pm at the Department of Education, DU. A qualitative and imaginative test was also carried among the children scientists who presented their projects during the technical sessions. The Qualitative and Imaginative test session was held post lunch where the children scientists were evaluated with special emphasis on accessibility for the differently-abled individuals.

Some of the projects that were presented varied from case study on health awareness among students, banana and its economic importance, mosquito repellent candle, organic development of Nip, Pen and Ink. The participants are proactive and brilliant, making it difficult for the judges to decide on the best project.

Children Scientists showcase their creative side

On the evening of 14th October a cultural event was held at the Rang Ghar auditorium of the University. Participant students from different districts of Assam showcased their talents by reciting a poem, or performing a dance or song recital.







Video Conferencing with Professor A.N. Bezbarua, Northdakota University and students of West Fargo Public School, North Dakota

On 14th October evening, the children scientists had an interactive session through video conferencing with Professor Achintya Nayan Bezbarua, North Dakota University, USA. Around 50 students were present in this session along with their mentors and faculties of Dibrugarh University.

Professor Alak Kr Buragohain,The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University and Mr.Arup Kr. Mishra, Director, ASTEC also attended the session for a brief duration.

Professor Bezbarua introduced the participants to his team who are involved in the development of the Science,Technology,Engineering,Mathematics(STEM) programme in the middle school students. The participants were guided as to how a STEM programme can be developed in the Indian school education curriculum. Few students of West Fargo Public School, demonstrated a project that they made. There was a vibrant exchange and melange of ideas and thoughts about the science education programme, how it functions in both the nations and what are the methods that can be developed to make it more productive.

An interaction  session with Mr. Arman Ali, Chief Executive Officer, Shishu Sarothi Assam. He spoke on the participation of differently-abled children and how science can be incorporated in creating innovative solutions to improve accessibility for all differently abled individuals.

Two technical sessions were being held parallely at the Department of Education, DibrugarhUniversity with budding children scientists participating from various districts of Assam, showcasing their talents by presenting their outstanding projects  on various local and general issues. 

The topics varied from Multipurpose usage of waste plastic bottles to utilisation of Energy in Domestic Kitchen, Biodiversity, Sustainable Development to mention a few. Judges were invited from various colleges and Dibrugarh University.

One of the district coordinators, Manav Deka commented on the performance of the students and said,"Students are doing good considering their age group and the justifications that they are giving while presenting their projects reflects their potential and capabilities."

Assam Chief Minister Sarabanda Sonowal inaugurates State level National Children's Science Congress



The inaugural ceremony of the 24th State Level National Children's Science Congress, 2016 started at 12 pm on 14th October at Rang Ghar auditorium, Dibrugarh University. The programme was inaugurated by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam. Also present in the august gathering were Shri Keshab Mahanta, Minister for Water Resource, Science and Technology and Information Technology, Laya Madurri, Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh, Professor Alak Kr.
